SAN DIEGO (July 20, 2023) – Capt. Thomas J. Zerr, Chief of Staff, Naval Surface Forces, U.S. Pacific Fleet, right, speaks with midshipmen during a planned group photo to celebrate the 75th anniversary of Naval Beach Group One. The need for a single organization dedicated to the support of amphibious operations was recognized as a result of experience gained during the island-hopping campaigns of World War II.
