230720-N-EE352-1023 PACIFIC OCEAN (July 20, 2023) Aviation Boatswain’s Mate (Handling) Airman Richard Valdezchavez, a native of the Dominican Republic, communicates on a radio before an aircraft elevator evolution in the hangar bay of Nimitz-class aircraft carrier USS Carl Vinson (CVN 70). USS Carl Vinson (CVN 70), Carrier Strike Group (CSG) 1’s flagship, is underway conducting routine operations in the U.S. 3rd Fleet area of operations. Integrated exercises prepare our Sailors to respond quickly. U.S. 3rd Fleet works in close coordination with other numbered fleets to provide commanders with capable, ready forces to deploy forward and win in day-to-day competition, in crisis, and in conflict.
