U.S. Marines with 12th Marine Regiment, 3rd Marine Division, prepare to set-up a Ground/Air Task Oriented Radar (G/ATOR) system during a routine unit level training exercise on Iejima, Okinawa, Japan, July 15, 2023. The G/ATOR provides an air defense and surveillance capability and is used to locate enemy weapon systems. As the stand-in force aviation combat element, 1st MAW is utilizing expeditionary advanced bases to expand kill chain functions and bridge Marine aviation command and control (C2), sensor, and shooter capabilities across the joint force.
