U.S. Marine Corps Lance Cpl. Winston Crowell, a Huston, Texas native and a rifleman with Company L, 3rd Battalion, 5th Marine Regiment, 1st Marine Division provides security during a routine level training exercise on Iejima, Okinawa, Japan, July 15, 2023. 3rd Battalion, 5th Marine Regiment is forward deployed to the Indo-Pacific area of operations in support of 1st MAW. As the stand-in force aviation combat element, 1st MAW is utilizing expeditionary advanced bases to expand kill chain functions and bridge Marine aviation command and control (C2), sensor, and shooter capabilities across the joint force.
