Dan King, an electronics engineer in the High Energy Laser and Metrology Lab of Naval Surface Warfare Center, Corona Division, shows a live fire exercise of a YLS-20000 Ytterbium Laser System to a cohort of local high school students selected as part of Science and Technology Education Partnership’s, “STEM in Defense,” pilot program hosted by the warfare center in Norco, California, July 19, 2023. The program is one of STEP’s STEM Summer Learning Labs and gave participants a hands-on learning experience focused on career opportunities in defense including cybersecurity, data analytics and the commercialization of military technology.
