Corina Gonzales poses for a photo following an award presentation in which she received the gold Presidential Volunteer Service Award at Marine Corps Air Station, Iwakuni, Japan, July 21, 2023. Since arriving to the installation in 2021, Gonzalez, a Marine Corps veteran and military spouse, worked with MCAS Iwakuni Marine Corps Family Team Building as a LINKS mentor, coordinated and facilitated events with the local USO, and wrote over $10,000 in checks for financial assistance in support of the Navy Marine Corps Relief Society in conjunction with supporting other volunteer organizations and causes throughout the installation. In 2003, the President’s Council on Service and Civic Participation was founded, and it continues to honor individuals whose service positively impacts communities in every corner of the globe today.
