NEWPORT, R.I. – The U.S. Naval War College (NWC) hosts Convocation signaling the start of the 2023 – 2024 academic year August 8, 2023. During the ceremony, NWC President Rear Adm. Pete Garvin welcomed guest speaker and Rhode Island native U.S. Senator Sheldon Whitehouse. More than 550 in-residence students from the joint services, international militaries, and federal and state agencies were in attendance along with NWC faculty and staff. Established in 1884, NWC informs today’s decision-makers and educates tomorrow’s leaders by providing educational experiences and learning opportunities that develop their ability to anticipate and prepare strategically for the future, strengthen the foundations of peace, and create a decisive warfighting advantage.
