U.S. Marines with the 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit and U.S. Navy Sailors assigned to the amphibious transport dock ship USS Green Bay (LPD-20) man the rails as the USS Greenbay passes into port to render honors to His Majesty's Australian Ship Sydney (D48) in Sydney, Australia, Aug. 11, 2023. Manning the rails is a naval tradition for rendering honors aboard naval vessels as well as to host nations. The 31st MEU is operating aboard ships of USS America Amphibious Ready Group in the 7th fleet area of operations to enhance interoperability with allies and partners and serve as a ready response force to defend peace and stability in the Indo-Pacific region.
