Michigan Air National Guard Lt. Col. Dr. James Rosbolt, a flight surgeon with the 110th Wing, and Major Broc Nichelson, a respiratory therapist with the 110th Wing, work on an injured Airman in a virtual reality simulation during Exercise Northern Strike 2023 at the Alpena Combat Readiness Training Center, Alpena, Michigan, Aug. 12, 2023. The television screen behind the two allows observers to watch and track actions taken by Rosbolt and Nichelson, allowing for immediate feedback from the training team. Utilizing the virtual reality training, the medical professionals are able to go “hands-on” with patients with significant injuries and then observe how those patients act as various types of medical assistance is rendered. Exercise Northern Strike is a premier reserve component training event that integrates both U.S. and partner nation readiness training to build interoperability and strengthen partnerships in an all-domain environment.
