Soldiers competing in the U.S. Army Forces Command Best Squad Competition plot points and plan their routes during a day and night land navigation course, Aug. 14, 2023, on Fort Campbell, Kentucky. Land navigation is the discipline of following a route through unfamiliar terrain on foot or by vehicle, using maps with reference to terrain, a compass and other navigational tools. The week-long competition assesses each squad on their technical and tactical proficiency, as well as their ability to work as a disciplined and cohesive team. There will only be one FORSCOM best squad winner who will have the opportunity in the U.S. Army Best Squad Competition following their victory. (U.S. Army photo by Spc. Jaidon Novinska)
