Sailors assigned to the Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyer USS Porter (DDG 78) prepare to launch a rigid hull inflatable boat to transfer rescued civilian divers to United States Coast Guard 115 47 FT Motor Lifeboat CG47287 off the coast of Wilmington, N.C. Porter’s assistance in rescuing the divers is an example of the U.S. Navy’s unique multi-role mission to ensuring safety at sea. USS Porter is participating in Large-Scale Exercise 2023 (LSE 2023). LSE 2023 demonstrates the Navy’s and Marine Corps’ ability to employ precise, lethal, and overwhelming force globally across six maritime component commands, seven numbered fleets, and 22 time zones.
