U.S. Marine Corps Cpl. Michael Skiles builds a fire for jungle survival training during Jungle Leaders Course at the Jungle Warfare Training Center, Okinawa, Japan, July 24, 2023. The course is designed to test physical and mental resilience of Marine Corps leaders in a harsh jungle environment. Skiles, a native of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania is a rifleman with 3d Battalion, 5th Marines and is currently forward deployed in the Indo-Pacific under 4th Marines, 3d Marine Division as part of the Unit Deployment Program.
