SAN DIEGO (Aug. 14, 2023) – Aviation Ordnanceman 2nd Class David Fernandez, a native of Rancho Cucamonga, California, recites the oath of enlistment to Lt. Fredrick Butler, a native of Milwaukee, during a reenlistment ceremony on the flight deck aboard USS Boxer (LHD 4). Fernandez was promoted to the rank of petty officer second class as part of the Detailing Marketplace Assignment Policy (DMAP) which rewards Sailors in sea-intensive ratings in exchange for staying at sea in critical operational billets.
