Maj. Robert Churchill, operations officer of the 3rd Armored Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division, presents the Purple Heart posthumously to Pfc. Simon Cardenas’ son, John Cardenas at Rep. Brittany Pettersen’s office in Denver, Colo. Aug. 16, 2023. Pfc. Simon Cardenas was killed in action during WWII on November 22, 1944, while serving as part of the 1st Infantry Division in Germany.
