Aviation Boatwain’s Mate Fuels 2nd Class Nathan Amling conducts refueling operations at NAVSUP FLC Sigonella fuels facility, August 17, 2023 on Naval Air Station Sigonella, Italy. Refueler truck 321 is parked at top off stand 402 and hooked up to the scully system, grounding the truck and providing overflow protection. A hose is connected to the bottom loader connection, and the bottom loader valve opens the belly valve to the tank prior to engaging the dead man switch to initiate the flow of fuel. The dead man switch is a safety mechanism that ensures personnel are physically present throughout the refueling evolution.
