A U.S. Marine with Battalion Landing Team 2/1, 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit, fires an M18 service pistol during a live-fire exercise aboard the amphibious dock landing ship USS New Orleans (LPD-18) in the Philippine Sea, Aug. 25, 2023. The Marines of BLT 2/1 conducted the live-fire exercise to refine their weapons proficiency as well to maintain weapons handling discipline. The 31st MEU is operating aboard ships of the America Amphibious Ready Group in the 7th Fleet area of operations to enhance interoperability with allies and partners and serve as a ready response force to defend peace and stability in the Indo-Pacific region.
