Marines and Sailors of the 26th Marine Expeditionary Unit departed Camp Lejeune, N.C., traveled to Naval Station Norfolk, Va., and boarded the USS Bataan (LHD 5), Dec. 10, 2012. The Marines and Sailors will conduct multiple training exercises including different variations of raids; visit, board, search and seizure training; and tactical recovery of aircraft and personnel simulations during their third major training exercise of the pre-deployment training process. The 26th MEU operates continuously across the globe, providing the president and unified combatant commanders with a forward-deployed, sea-based quick reaction force. The MEU is a Marine Air-Ground Task Force capable of conducting amphibious operations, crisis response, and limited contingency operations. The 26th MEU is slated to deploy in 2013.
