The U.S. Army Medical Capability Development Integration Directorate hosted a tabletop exercise to highlight challenges, gaps, and/or requirements across the Doctrine, Organization, Training, materiel, Leadership and Education, Personnel, Facilities and Policy (DOTmLPF-P) spectrum, including extended care due to potential evacuation delays. The event was held at the U.S. Army Medical Center of Excellence at Fort Sam Houston – Joint Base San Antonio, TX from August 28 through the 31st.

Leaders and subject matter experts from Army Medicine, Army commands, joint services and allied partners attended both in person and virtually. The team worked together during the event to discuss how the roles of care within the Army Health System have been sufficient over the past two decades, however the shift towards Large-Scale Combat Operations against peer/near-peer threats in a Multi-Domain Operations environment calls for a comprehensive re-examination of these roles.

This experimentation process evaluated the equipment, personnel, and training to meet maneuver commanders requirements and identify areas for improvement. During the exercise participants received briefings and updates on new technologies, data integration, simulations, medical maneuvers and treatments, facilitating discussing to charting a path forward to meet causality care requirements.

Role 1 care warrants a comprehensive investigation to uncover any challenges, gaps and requirements, with a particular focus on the provision of prolonged care due to potential evacuation delays. This analysis considers the expected transformation of the Army force by 2040.

During the final out brief, MED CDID provided senior attendees with a synopsis of the exercise findings, recommendations and a final report to present to Army leaders.
