Japan Ground Self-Defense Force members use a chainsaw to cut a hole in a roof to rescue trapped personnel in a simulated building collapse during Sasebo City’s annual joint disaster drill held at Japan Ground Self-Defense Force Camp Ainoura Sept. 1, 2023. Firefighters from Commander, Navy Region Japan Fire and Emergency Services Sasebo and Sailors assigned to Navy Medical Readiness and Training Unit Sasebo participated in the drill along with local, prefectural and defense force first responders to demonstrate proficiency during disaster-related scenarios such as firefighting, medical triage, decontamination and performing repairs on critical infrastructure.
