The pre-sail conference focused on the final stages of planning for SGS2023 and its training evolutions, featuring key leaders from the U.S. Marine Corps’ 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit, the Republic of Singapore Navy, the Indonesia National Armed Forces, and the Japan Ground Self-Defense Force. The United States’ relationships with allied and partner nations is invaluable, and international training exercises such as Super Garuda Shield allow our military forces to work closely together with allied and partnered forces in order to enhance interoperability and strengthen cooperation. Super Garuda Shield 2023 (SGS2023) is an annual exercise that has significantly grown in scope and size since 2009. SGS2023 is the second consecutive time this exercise has grown into a combined and joint event, highlighting the seven participating and 12 observing nations' commitment to partnership and a free and open Indo-Pacific.
