The Fort Novosel Fire Department hosted its 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb Friday Sept. 8 in Bldg. 5700, the Soldier Service Center. The firefighters began climbing at 8:46 a.m. (when the North Tower was hit) and ended at 9:59 a.m. (when South Tower collapsed). Firefighters participated in the event with the goal for each firefighter to climb the equivalent of 110 stories – the amount New York City firefighters faced during 9/11. Community members encouraged Fort Novosel’s firefighters as they climbed the center stairwell to the third floor of the building and descended the south stairwell until they reached the 110-floor goal.
