U.S. Marine Corps Lance Cpl. Dylan Myers, an infantry Marine, with Battalion Landing Team 2/1, 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit, provides security during a multi-lateral amphibious assault for Super Garuda Shield 2023, Banongan Beach, Asembagus, Indonesia, Sept. 10, 2023. The multi-lateral amphibious assault allowed the U.S. Marines, Japan Ground Self-Defense Force, Republic of Singapore Army, and Tentara Nasional Indonesia Marines an opportunity to integrate and exercise emerging warfighting concepts with allies and partners. Super Garuda Shield 2023 (SGS2023) is an annual exercise that has significantly grown in scope and size since 2009. SGS2023 is the second consecutive time this exercise has grown into a combined and joint event, highlighting the seven participating and 12 observing nations' commitment to partnership and a free and open Indo-Pacific.
