An "immediate" tag is tied to the boot of a Marine assigned to 26th Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU) during a mass casualty exercise aboard the USS Bataan off the coast of North Carolina, Dec. 14, 2012. The tag signifies that the injuries that Marine sustained are life threatening and should be treated immediately. The exercise was conducted to familiarize Marines and Sailors on proper techniques of triaging in a deployed environment. The 26th MEU operates continuously across the globe, providing the president and unified combatant commanders with a forward-deployed, sea-based quick reaction force. The MEU is a Marine Air-Ground Task Force capable of conducting amphibious operations, crisis response, and limited contingency operations. They are slated to deploy in 2013.
