Two ballistic targets soar into the night sky at Pacific Missile Range Facility Barking Sands in Kauai on July 24, 2021. Naval Surface Warfare Center, Port Hueneme Division’s White Sands Detachment personnel built and launched the targets for the Missile Defense Agency’s Flight Mission Stellar Medusa, known as FTM-33. In this time-lapse photo, the lower arc shows where the targets’ first-stage motors provided the initial thrust and then dropped off. The upper arc shows where the second-stage motors kicked in.
