Command Sgt. Maj. Dena Ballowe, of Carlinville, Illinois, Illinois National Guard Command Senior Enlisted Leader, passes the noncommissioned sword to Maj. Gen. Rich Neely, the Adjutant General of Illinois and Commander of the Illinois National Guard, during the change of responsibility ceremony Sept. 8 at the Illinois Military Academy, Camp Lincoln, Springfield, Illinois. The passing of the sword from Ballowe to Neely signified her relinquishment of responsibility and authority as the ILNG CSEL. Ballowe was appointed as the ILNG’s first CSEL in July 2019. She will retire from the Illinois Army National Guard in October.
