The California Aeronautical University and Olive Drab Drivers hosted a World War II Plaque Dedication Ceremony to honor the 547th Night Fighter Squadron, Sept. 18, 2023 at Meadows Field Airport in Bakersfield, Calif. The 547 NFS received training in the Northrop P-61 Black Widow. They were the last military flying unit that trained for the night fighter mission at Meadows Field Airport (previously Kern County Airport). The 547 NFS provided air suppression support during the rescue of more than 500 American and Allied prisoners at Cabanatuan, Philippines during WWII. U.S. Air Force Lt. Col. Jeremy Hirsch, 547th Intelligence Squadron from Nellis Air Force Base, Nev., was the keynote speaker for the event. (U.S. Air Force photo by Tech. Sgt. AJ Hyatt)
