Members of the Michigan National Guard, Veterans, and civilians gathered at Eldorado Golf Cub, Mason, Mich., to play 18 holes of golf on Sept. 22, 2023. Maj Gen Paul Rogers, the Adjutant General of Michigan National Guard and the Department of Military and Veterans Affairs, hosts the annual event to raise funds for the charity of choice. The National Guard Association of Michigan (NGAM) organizes the golf outing with the intent of fundraising for the charity "54 by 24." 54 by 24 is a medical service dog campaign with the goal of providing 54 service dogs by the end of 2024. The goal is to provide one medical service dog for each state and territory within the United states, for service members and veterans who are suffereing from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). The goal of 54 by 24 is to be able to give back by working towards a better future for Guardsmen suffering from suicidal ideations. To accomplish this goal of putting at least one medial service dog in each state or territory by 2024, NGAM must raise $1.35M, with each dog costing approximately $25K for breeding, training and pairing.
