CORONADO, Calif. (Sept. 29, 2023) Naval Special Warfare Center pinned 19 new chief petty officers during the FY ‘24 ceremony onboard Naval Amphibious Base Coronado. Among those advanced to the rank of chief, are seven Chief Special Warfare Operators (SOC). The rank of chief petty officer was created April 1, 1893, and the chief petty officer pinning ceremony is a unique tradition to the U.S. Navy that signifies promotion to a crucial position of leadership and responsibility. Naval Special Warfare is the nation's elite maritime special operations force, uniquely positioned to extend the Fleet's reach and gain and maintain access for the Joint Force in competition and conflict.
