The amphibious transport dock ship USS New York (LPD 21) arrives at Naval Station Norfolk after a deployment to the U.S. 5th and 6th Fleet areas of responsibility. New York returned to Naval Station Norfolk after a scheduled deployment to the U.S. 5th and 6th Fleet areas of responsibility supporting Operation Enduring Freedom, Exercises African Lion, Eager Lion, International Mine Countermeasure Exercise 2012, and maritime security operations and theater security cooperation efforts in the Mediterranean and Arabian Seas. New York is built with 7 ½ tons of steel salvaged from the World Trade Center.
