A custom-designed and lighted photo of a Wisconsin National Guard unit in Appleton, Wisconsin from 1897 is displayed in the hallway leading to the drill floor of the newly renovated armory for the Appleton-based 2nd Battalion, 127th Infantry Regiment headquarters company. A ribbon-cutting and grand opening was held Sept. 28 to celebrate the completion of an 18-month, $15 million renovation and expansion that nearly doubled the available floor space and addressed critical needs such as increased storage, training resources, parking and administrative offices. The battalion’s lineage dates back to the Civil War and wall displays throughout the armory portray the battalion’s heritage. Wisconsin Department of Military Affairs photo by Vaughn R. Larson
