Independence-variant littoral combat ship USS Augusta (LCS 34) arrived at the installation last night following the ship's commissioning ceremony last weekend in Eastport, ME. The arrival of USS Augusta represents the first time the installation has hosted a ship of the Independence-variant design, which are built by Austal USA in Mobile, AL. USS Augusta will be homeported in San Diego and joined Littoral Combat Ship Squadron One.
