SOUTH CHINA SEA (October 2, 2023) – Sonar Technician 2nd Class Seth Hopkins (left) and Gunners Mate 1st Class Derek Smith (right) fire a shot line to the Royal Canadian Naval Replenishment Unit, NRU Asterix from the Independence-variant littoral combat ship, USS Mobile’s (LCS 26), to initiate refuelling during a replenishment-at-sea evolution, South China Sea, Oct. 2. Mobile, part of Destroyer Squadron 7, is on a rotational deployment operating in the U.S. 7TH Fleet area of operations to enhance interoperability with Allies and partners and serve as a ready-response force in support of a free and open Indo-Pacific region.
