ATLANTIC OCEAN – Ryan Bowersock, from the Aircraft Division of Naval Air Warfare Center, gives Capt. Rich Lofgren, the Deputy Commander for U.S. Naval Forces Southern Command and U.S. 4th Fleet, a demonstration of the Augmented Reality Maintenance System onboard Spearhead-class expeditionary fast transport ship USNS Burlington (T-EPF 10) during U.S. 4th Fleet’s Hybrid Fleet Campaign Event in the Atlantic Ocean October 9, 2023. The Augmented Reality Maintenance System uses satellite communication to allow end-users with augmented reality goggles to connect directly with technical experts, allowing a first-person point of view and technical data sharing during troubleshooting and maintenance. The Hybrid Fleet Campaign Event, previously referred to as Fleet Experimentation Program (FLEX), provides an opportunity for the Office of Naval Research’s Scientists-to-Sea program to witness research and development progress for, and demonstrations of, unmanned systems and their adaptations in support of the Chief of Naval Operations Navigation Plan 2022.
