An immature Nothern black widow crawls on a surface at Laughlin Air Force Base, Texas. While their bites are not usually fatal to healthy adults, they can cause significant pain and discomfort. To minimize the risk of being bitten, wear gloves when working in areas where these spiders might be found, such as woodpiles, sheds or outdoor structures.
