This #FortRileyFriday we stay in the area around Cavalry Parade Field to look at another building constructed around the turn of the 20th century.
Building 222 Custer Avenue was built in 1907 as a stable and barracks for the Cavalry School. That same year, the Cavalry and Light Artillery Schools were consolidated and renamed the Mounted Service School although the training mission remained the same.
Through the years, bldg. 222 has provided space for a variety of functions to include an AAFES employment office, a television studio and the home of the 19th Public Affairs Detachment. Today, building 222 is home to the Fort Riley Spouses Club Thrift Shop, U.S. Army Staff Judge Advocate Trial Defense Services, and continues to serve as the 1st Infantry Division's 19th Public Affairs Detachment company area.
