A U.S. Marine Corps AH-1Z Viper helicopter assigned to Marine Light Attack Helicopter Squadron (HMLA) 169, Marine Air Group 39, 3rd Marine Aircraft Wing, provides close air support during a live-fire field training exercise, on W-174 Joint Okinawa Range Complex at Irisuna Island, Okinawa, Japan, Oct. 13, 2023. Marine Aircraft Group 39 provides utility helicopter support, close-in fire support, fire support coordination, aerial reconnaissance, observation, and forward air control in aerial and ground escort operations during ship-to-shore movement and subsequent operations ashore.
