231028-N-VM650-1450 PACIFIC OCEAN (Oct. 28, 2023) Gunner’s Mate 3rd Class Dalton Pickens fires a shot line aboard Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyer USS Sterett (DDG 104) during a replenishment-at-sea with fleet replenishment oiler USNS John Ericsson (T-AO 194). A shot line is used to connect two ships during replenishments. Sterett, assigned to Carrier Strike Group ONE, is underway conducting routine operations in the U.S. 7th Fleet area of operations. U.S. 7th Fleet is the U.S. Navy’s largest forward-deployed numbered fleet, and routinely interacts and operates with allies and partners in preserving a free and open Indo-Pacific region.
