The annual solar eclipse as partially seen with the U.S. National Flag and the Alabama State Flag on Oct. 14, 2023, in front of the 117th Air Refueling Wing Headquarters building at Sumpter Smith Joint National Guard Base, Alabama. Based on the Sun’s pathing across North America, people located in Birmingham, Ala., were able to witness a maximum of 60 percent obscuration of the Sun, with it being visible, with appropriate safety tools and/or equipment, between the hours of about 10:40 a.m. to about 1:40 p.m. CDT.
