An AV-8B Harrier from Marine Attack Squadron 231 uses its vertical landing capability to land aboard the USS Kearsarge for Exercise Bold Alligator 2012. The purpose of the exercise was to revitalize Navy and Marine Corps amphibious expeditionary tactics, techniques and procedures and reinvigorate its culture of conducting combined Navy and Marine Corps operations from the sea using the Navy’s Expeditionary Strike Group 2 and the Marine Corps’ 2nd Marine Expeditionary Brigade.
