U.S. Marine Corps Col. Terry Ebbert (ret.), a former infantry officer, is presented a piece of cake as the oldest Marine present during the ceremony of the 248th Marine Corps Birthday Ball at the Caesars Superdome, New Orleans, Louisiana, Nov. 10, 2023. At each Marine Corps Birthday Ball, a piece of cake is passed from the oldest Marine present to the youngest Marine, signifying the passing of experience and knowledge from the old to the young of the Corps.
