U.S. Air Force Senior Airman Desmond Thomas, 354th Civil Engineering Squadron fire and emergency services dispatcher poses for a photo November 7, 2023 at Fire Station 1 Eielson Air Force Base, Alaska. On October 19, 2023, SrA Thomas received a 911 call from a distressed mother whose infant was choking on formula. SrA Thomas used his training as a fire and emergency services dispatcher to gather the information needed to dispatch crews, and coached the mother through the initial steps of cardiopulmonary resuscitation for her infant, saving the infant’s life.
