Secretary of the Navy Carlos Del Toro prepares to cut a cake during a shipnaming ceremony at the United States Naval Academy, Nov. 15. During the ceremony, Secretary Del Toro announced that the future Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyer DDG-141 will be named USS Ernest E. Evans, for Medal of Honor recipient and Naval Academy graduate Ernest E. Evans. Secretary Del Toro made the announcement during National Native American History Month. Evans was the first Native American in the Navy to earn the Medal of Honor and one of only two World War II destroyer captains to attain it.
