A cord is tied around a simulated improvised explosive device at an explosive ordinance disposal scenario during KAMANDAG 7 on Marine Base Rodolfo Punsalang, Puerto Princesa, Palawan, Philippines, Nov. 12, 2023. Service members from the U.S. and the Philippines executed simulated EOD calls to test each other’s effectiveness in removing IEDs. KAMANDAG is an annual Philippine Marine Corps and U.S. Marine Corps-led exercise aimed at improving bilateral readiness and mutual capabilities in the advancement of a Free and Open Indo-Pacific. This year marks the seventh iteration of this exercise and includes participants from Japan, the Republic of Korea, and observers from the United Kingdom. Marine Rotational Force-Southeast Asia is a Marine Corps Forces Pacific operational model that involves exchanges with subject matter experts, promotes security goals with Allies and partners, and positions I Marine Expeditionary Force forces west of the International Date Line.
