Travis Mills, 502nd Force Support Group commander, put a wreath at gravestones during the German Memorial Day on Nov. 19, 2023, at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery, Texas. German Memorial Day or Volkstrauertag - people's day of mourning - is honored at German war graves sites throughout the world by the German embassies, communities abroad and Volksbund branch offices. Both larger and smaller events take place with the involvement of international partners and often the municipalities and residents of the cemetery locations.
