YOKOSUKA, Japan (Dec. 7, 2023) Aerographer’s Mate 3rd Class Melvin Thimlar, from Middlebury, Indiana, helps a Sailor don firefighting equipment during a joint damage control drill in the hangar bay of the U.S. Navy’s only forward-deployed aircraft carrier, USS Ronald Reagan (CVN 76), while in-port Commander, Fleet Activities Yokosuka, Dec. 7. The drill was designed to enhance coordination between Ronald Reagan’s in-port emergency team and Commander, Navy Region Japan Fire and Emergency Services Yokosuka in the event of a large fire that requires additional assistance. Ronald Reagan, the flagship of Carrier Strike Group 5, provides a combat-ready force that protects and defends the United States, and supports Alliances, partnerships and collective maritime interests in the Indo-Pacific region.
