Johnathan Raphael, Angaur resident, poses for a photo in Angaur, Republic of Palau, Dec. 7, 2023. Angaur lies within the Republic of Palau, home to 18 thousand people and 340 islands. The remote paradise Angaur, however, inhabits around a hundred people and a singular airstrip. In the embrace of this small community, Operation Christmas Drop finds a people most in-need of humanitarian aid. In its 72nd year, OCD is the world’s longest-running humanitarian assistance airdrop training mission, providing critical supplies to 58 remote islands like Angaur, impacting 42 thousand people across 1.8 million square nautical miles of operating area.
