U.S. Army Sgt. 1st Class Christopher Smith assigned to the 289th Infantry Regiment, delivers a speech as a homage to U.S. Army Veteran Staff Sgt. Robert G. Rudd of Charlie Company, 1st Battalion, 38th Infantry Regiment, 2nd Infantry Division in his repatriation ceremony at Bethel Cemetery on Fort. Cavazos, Dec. 9, 2023. Staff Sgt. Rudd was mortally wounded on Jan. 30th, 1945 during the battle of the Bulge, and was identified on June. 20th, 2023 after having been buried in the Arden National Cemetery under the marker “X3144” for over seven decades. Staff Sgt. Rudd’s medals include a Bronze Star with the medal “V” device and one bronze oak leaf cluster, a Purple Heart, Good Conduct medal, European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign medal with four Bronze Service Stars, World War II Victory Medal, Presidential Unit Citation, Combat Infantryman Badge, Honorable Service Lapel Button- World War II, and the Belgian Fourragere.
