Seaman 3rd Class, now known as the rank of Seaman, Bob Perkins, a native of Washington, Indiana, poses for a photo with his fellow recruits after graduating from Navy bootcamp, July 20, 1939. Perkins’ grandson, Chief Cryptologic Technician (Collection) Joel Perkins, a native of Cave Junction, Oregon, assigned to USS Boxer (LHD 4), shares the story of his grandfather every year on Pearl Harbor Day. The Boxer Amphibious Ready Group, comprised of Boxer, USS Somerset (LPD 25), and USS Harpers Ferry (LSD 49), and the embarked 15th Marine Expeditionary Unit are underway conducting integrated training and routine operations in U.S. 3rd Fleet.
