SCHRIEVER SPACE FORCE BASE, Colo. -- U.S. Space Force Col David Hanson, left, Space Base Delta 1 Commander, and U.S. Space Force Specialist 3rd Class Callum Petoia, a guardian of the U.S. Space Operations Command (SPOC) 533d Training Squadron, cut a cake with a saber during the celebration of the U.S. Space Force's 4th birthday, at Schriever Space Force Base, Colorado, Dec. 20, 2023. In celebration of the USSF birthday, it is tradition to have the youngest and oldest guardian to cut the cake. The USSF was established Dec. 20, 2019, when the National Defense Authorization Act was signed into law, creating the first new branch of armed services in 73 years.
