CAMP SHELBY MILITARY BASE, Mississippi - U.S. Marine Corps Sgt. Omar I. Cardoso Bienes, is a joint fire observer assigned to 4th Air Naval Gunfire Liaison Company and a police officer assigned to the Special Response Team Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) at Miami-Dade Police Department in Florida. The Jovellanos, Matanzas, Cuba native came to the United States in 2010 and joined the Marine Corps Reserve in 2015 to find new opportunities and serve his country.
“My favorite part about both jobs is the camaraderie within the teams,” said Bienes. “There is nothing like the bond with the Marines I deployed with.”
Serving the Marine Corps Reserves has opened new oppurtunies for Bienes’ career as a police officer. Due to Bienes’ combat deployment in the Marine Corps, he was given the opportunity to become a part of the SWAT team with Miami-Dade Police Department, becoming the youngest member of the team.
Being a part of the Selected Marine Corps Reserve gives Bienes and other Marines the opportunity to be a part of the Marine Corps community while maintaining careers throughout their daily lives.
